Questions & Answers

What exactly is monk's pepper?

Chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus) is a spice plant from the Lamiaceae family and can grow up to 4 meters high. Originally widespread in the Mediterranean region and West Asia, it prefers water-rich areas. In addition to the names 'Chaste tree', 'Monk's pepper', 'Chasteberry', or 'Lilac chaste tree', chaste tree is also known as 'Chaste tree'.

Chaste tree has been used in natural medicine and ritual ceremonies for millennia. It was used in ancient Greek fertility ceremonies and in the Middle Ages to help monks and nuns maintain chastity. The fruits of the chaste tree, which have a spicy taste, were used as a pepper substitute in monastery kitchens.

Usually, only the fruits of the chaste tree shrub are used, which are processed in tea or as a highly concentrated dry extract in the form of capsules or tinctures. Our Gaia Foods chaste tree capsules contain an optimal extract ratio of 4:1, which means that for one part of chaste tree extract, 4 parts of the plant are used.

Why flaxseed flour?

Since the extract amount of 10 mg per capsule is very low, this product is mixed with natural flaxseed meal for even filling and high dosing accuracy.

What effects can I expect?
Dietary supplements are legally classified as food. Due to the Health Claims Regulation in the EU, we are unfortunately not allowed to make any statements about the effects of monk's pepper. Please research independently on the internet or in relevant textbooks about areas of application and possible effects.
